The view was shared by experts on December 7 at the Vietnam - Poland trade exchange programme organised by the Polish Chamber of Commerce Promotion Centre and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)'s Branch in Ho Chi Minh City.

Addressing the event, Nguyen Huu Nam, deputy director of VCCI HCM City, emphasised that the Vietnam – Poland relations have developed constantly, especially in trade and investment, since the two countries first established diplomatic ties in 1950.

Most notably, the enforcement of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) in 2020 has also had a positive impact on bilateral cooperation, he added.

During the initial seven months of this year, the two-way trade turnover reached over US$1.6 billion, with over US$1.4 billion generated from Vietnamese exports, mostly garments, footwear, and aquatic and agricultural products.

In contrast, Poland has strengths in pharmaceuticals, dairy products, animal feed, and cosmetics, all of which are in great demand from the Vietnamese side.

Vietnam can learn from Poland’s experience in developing high-tech agriculture by investing in modern technology and machinery in a bid to improve agricultural production, Nam said.

Alexander Nowakowski, third Secretary of Economic Affairs at the Polish Embassy in Vietnam, emphasised that food production plays an important role in bilateral cooperation, adding that a Polish business delegation arrived in Vietnam this year to explore the market and seek investment opportunities. According to the diplomat, Polish businesses were keen to choose Vietnam as a destination thanks to the country’s strategic location in the vibrant Southeast Asian market and improved infrastructure.

Vietnam has maintained both political and economic stability and at the same time integrated more deeply into the global economy as evidenced by the signing of a series of free trade agreements, he said.

Piotr Harasimowicz, chief representative officer at the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, revealed that Polish food businesses have been deploying the EU-funded campaign to promote Polish products exported to the Vietnamese market.

Simultaneously, Polish businesses have also actively participated in food and beverage exhibitions in Vietnam in order to seek importers and distribution partners in the hope that their quality products will become increasingly popular among Vietnamese consumers in future.
