CAND Newspaper-funded rice ATM supports border people

PSNews – The Public Security (CAND) Newspaper and kind donors on May 4 inaugurated a rice ATM in Duc Hue District, Long An Province to support needy people in the border area to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Senior Colonel Tran Kim Tham, Vice Director of the Public Security Department of Information and Communications, Managing Editor of the CAND Newspaper, attended the event.

At the event, some 10 tons of rice was allocated to people in Duc Hue District. Despite the harsh weather, many youth members have actively guided people to receive rice in order.

Mrs. Bui Thi An, aged 75, is a resident from Duc Hue District. Her family has seven people and they earn their living from selling lottery tickets. During the social distancing period, her family had no income and they relied on donations from kind donors.

The CAND Newspaper-funded rice ATM provided her family with an amount of rice enough for the family to consume in 3-4 days.

Speaking at the event, Senior Colonel Tran Kim Tham affirmed that thanks to the support of kind donors such as SSI Company, Minh Huy Company, Dong Tam Company and Mr. Vo Van Bay, the CAND Newspaper was able to set up four rice ATMs to support needy people.

“We want to ease difficulties of needy residents during this hard time”, he added.

Speaking to the CAND Newspaper, Mr. Le Van Nen, Vice Chairman of the Duc Hue District People’s Committee said that the district has some 69.000 people, most of whom rely on agriculture. The COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected local residents.

Therefore, the rice ATM sponsored by the CAND Newspaper and kind donors has supported them very much. In order to ensure social distance, the local authority will distribute rice to people from 6pm to 8 pm every day.
