Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security attended the event.

Speaking at the event, Senior Colonel Vu Van Hau, Deputy Director of the Counter-Narcotics Police Department pointed out that, along with the dangerous spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, the situation of drug-related crimes remains complicated with an increasing number of drug-related cases.

The drugs of various kinds, mainly from foreign countries, are trafficked to Vietnam either for consumption or to be transported to third countries on land by sea and air.

Recently, drug traffickers also take advantage of the internet to trade narcotics in the form of confectioneries.

Meanwhile, drug-related criminals have become more dangerous. Many have had weapons and explosive materials and are ready to fire at functional forces when being chasing. This has caused casualties to police forces.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong praised the achievements of the Counter-Narcotics Police Department over the past time.

He then requested the unit to urgently evaluate and closely follow the drugs situation, and at the same time coordinate with other police units to crack down on drug-related crimes.

The Deputy Minister also stated that, in the coming, the unit in particular and the Ministry of Public Security in general must not let Vietnam become a regional drug depot and center of gravity of drug-related crimes.

The unit should timely prevent the drug supply line from afar while implementing effective approaches to reduce illegal drug trade in the country, and take the initiative in drug prevention and fight.
