Deputy Minister Bui Van Thanh visits and presents donations to Khanh Hoa

PSNews – Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Head of the Steering Committee for Response to Climate Change, Natural Disasters and Rescue of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), visited and presented donations of the MPS to storm-hit residents and police officers in Khanh Hoa, on November 6.

Under the direction of Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, the mission conducted charitable activities in the three central provinces of Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen and Binh Dinh.

Mr. Nguyen Dac Tai, Deputy Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee said that the Damrey (Storm No.12) has been the strongest storm hitting the province in the past 40 years. This has caused great damages to local people and property.

To date, Khanh Hoa has recorded 27 deaths, 5 missing and 89 others injured. In terms of property damage, over 10,000 houses totally collapsed or were partially damaged; 3,826 hectares of rice and some 6,200 hectares of other crops were drowned and damaged; many infrastructural projects of transportation, irrigation, electricity, telecommunications as well as schools, infirmaries, offices, factories, technical base were badly damaged.

The total loss is estimated to reach VND 7,000 billion. The Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has requested the Prime Minister to provide urgent medical, material and financial supports to restore local agricultural and aquaculture production, repair fishing vessels, roads, irrigation projects, schools and other technical infrastructure projects.

In addition to VND 1 billion of donation to Khanh Hoa, Deputy Minister Bui Van Thanh also visited and inquired after Party organizations, authorities and people in localities of Khanh Hoa suffering consequences of the storm.

The deputy minister hoped, the local people would strive to soon overcome all difficulties and stabilize their lives and work. The Chairman of Khanh Hoa People’s Committee expressed his deep gratitude to the support and donation of the MPS and appreciated the efforts of the Khanh Hoa Police force in rescuing and assisting local people in preventing the storm and overcoming its aftermath, with their high sense of responsibility and devotion to the people.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Khac Cuong - Director of the Khanh Hoa Police said, although the local police force had tried their best to prevent the storm, it still has damaged several detainment premises, working offices and police dog training centers with an estimated total loss of VND 29.5 billion.

Before and after the storm, the Khanh Hoa Police force deployed some 900 police officers to vulnerable areas to guide local residents to reinforce their houses and fasten fishing boats, and rescued 5 injured residents during the storm.

The working delegation also presented VND 1 billion of donation to the Khanh Hoa Police, instructed the provincial police force to actively maintain security, traffic order and safety, to mobilize human resources and means to support the people in the storm-stricken areas to overcome the consequences and losses to soon stabilize life and production.
