Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong hails people’s contribution to ensuring security for US-DPRK Summit

PSNews – Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security on March 1st answered some questions from journalists about the security work during the 2nd US-DPRK summit in Hanoi on the sidelines of the regular monthly government’s meeting.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong said that security and safety for the US-DPRK summit in Hanoi on February 27 and 28 have been maintained.

According to Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong, these great results stemmed not only from the considerable effort of the Public Security Forces, but also from the large contributions of the relevant ministries branches, and especially supports from the local authorities and people.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong said that security and safety for the US-DPRK summit in Hanoi on February 27 and 28 have been maintained.

“Both the US and the DPRK sent many delegations to Vietnam, including small and large ones coming to Vietnam ahead of the summit to make all preparations for their leaders’ lodging and security issues. In general, a large number of people and vehicles from the two countries came to Vietnam before and during the summit. Although the two participating countries informed the host country of their numbers of people and vehicles as well as venues very late, the host country still ensured absolute safety and security for all participating delegates, foreign reporters and the whole summit,” said Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong.

Regarding the reception and the convoy of the DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un from the Dong Dang train station, Lang Son Province to Hanoi City, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong said that the Lang Son Provincial authority and police forces seriously followed the direction of the Party and the State, and contributed to the success in the reception.

“I have not recognized any displeasure from any participating delegates of the USA and DPRK; instead, they all praised Vietnam for its careful preparation and great organization. Both U.S. President Donald Trump and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un have praised and thanked Vietnam for the organization of the summit as well as the security work, hospitality, friendliness and landscapes. The good organization for the summit has contributed to raising the country’s position and promoting the image of a Vietnam with good security, safety and public order on the international stage,” Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong said.

Regarding the difficulties in implementing the security tasks during the event, Deputy Minister Vuong admitted that the capacities of the host country’s security forces are not very good; furthermore,  the host country had to run against time as the host had been informed of the schedule late and the agenda changed from time to time.

“As the host country, we were all dependent on the schedules made by the USA and DPRK. So we only received notices very shortly before the arrivals or departures of the two participating delegations. In short, we must always make our forces ready to protect security and convoy the two delegations on request. In spite of the difficulties, we succeeded in ensuring security and safety for the USA-DPRK Summit in Hanoi,” Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong stressed.
