Forces in southwestern border strictly control illegal border crossings

Given the complicated situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Cambodia, functional forces in the southwestern provinces have enhanced their control of exit and entry across the borderline.

According to the police of An Giang province, the local forces captured 41 people involved in organizing 31 cases of illegal border crossings.

In 2020, the police of An Giang detected a group illegally taking people across the border. The police arrested the ringleader Phan Phi Hung, aged 42, and his 4 accomplices. In this case, they brought a person infected with COVID-19 into Vietnam.

The police and border guard forces of An Giang have just advised the provincial Party and authorities to direct all relevant local agencies and forces to enhance the management and control of exit and entry across the borderline.

Meanwhile, the southern province of Dong Thap shares over 50 km of border with Cambodia’s Prey Veng province. The provincial police teamed up with the border guard to effectively prevent illegal border crossings in the province. Over the past time, the functional forces have detected and handled some 400 cases of illegal immigration.

Since the detection of an infected case known as patient 2424 in late February, the provincial functional forces in Dong Thap have made more efforts to control illegal exit and entry.

In Kien Giang, the provincial functional forces have intensified patrols both on land and at sea to prevent illegal entry and exit. They regularly update the local people, including fishermen, on the pandemic situation, as well as explained them about tricks of illegal immigration organizers.

The fishermen therefore are well aware of their responsibility for preventing illegal entry and exit so they provide the functional forces with useful information related to illegal exit and entry.
