Accordingly, the General Department of Security has actively launched the emulation movement "For National Security" in association with the movement "People's Public Security Forces studying and following Uncle Ho's 6 teachings"; the campaign "Building on policemen’s qualities of bravery and humanity and dedication to the people. The competent agencies and units of the General Department have strengthened their coordination with Party committees and authorities at all levels to well protect internal political security, information security, economic security; effectively prevented and fight manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self transformation" within the force.

The General Department also collaborated with other Ministries, Departments and branches in orienting mass mobilization and foreign affairs; struggling against wrong views and distorted arguments of hostile forces; contributing to protect the Party's platform and policies.
In terms of economic security the General Department actively gave the Party and State ideas and recommendations on important policies and solutions to socio-economic development, macro-economic management and bad debt handling. The General Department of Security under the mandates of the Party and State also investigated and handled key economic crime cases, resturing hundreds of billions of VND to State's budget.

In the first 6 months of 2017, 5 organizations and 5 individuals of the General Department of Security received Orders of Victory of all classes; 3 organizations received Orders of National Defense; 4 organizations and individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Prime Minister; 14 organizations and 44 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Public Security; and hundreds of organizations and individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the General Department of Security.
Addressing the conference, Minister To Lam praised the General Department of Security for their achievements in the first 6 months of 2017. He stressed: "Under the guidance of the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government, the Central Party Committee of Public Security and Ministry of Public Security, the Public Security Forces have achieved many important results in maintaining security and order, reaching many of the set objectives: ensuring national security and social order; avoiding strategic surprises or being driven into a negative and passive position; and successfully protecting all key premises and projects as well as the country’s major events. Minister To Lam agreed with the first 6-month working program of General Department of Security and the key working tasks in the last 6 months of 2017. He urged the General Department of Security to continue to implement effectively Party building and rectification under the 12th Party Central Committee's Resolution No.4.

Senior Lieutenant General To Lam also emphasized the leading roles of leaders in implementing Resolutions No.4. In particular, leaders must in time detect and strictly handle violations of their subordinate officers and soldiers while well carrying out political and ideological work to improve officers and soldiers’ awareness of responsibility for their assigned tasks, and continue to seriously observe the force's discipline and order.
The Minister asked the General Department of Security to grasp the internal and external situations that have impacts on the national security; promptly give good advice to the Party, the State, the Party Central Committee of Public Security and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security on solutions to national security, socio-economic development and foreign affairs. The General Department should also coordinate closely with localities to thoroughly review and resolve issues related to security and order.
