Local police support people to overcome consequences of Storm No.2

PSNews – Heavy rains and strong winds due to the atmospheric circulation of Storm No.2 have damaged hundreds of houses in Kien Giang and Hau Giang Provinces and Can Tho City. The police forces in storm-affected localities have made great efforts to support people to overcome consequences of the natural disasters.

In the circulation of Storm No.2, rains and strong winds damaged 493 houses and many classrooms in Kien Giang. The total damage is estimated at over 5.38 billion VND.

The local Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and Search and Rescue in Kien Giang directed local forces to promptly respond to the calamities, fighting flooding in low-lying areas. Against this backdrop, the local police and military forces supported local people to overcome the consequences.

In Phu Quoc, downpours and rising tides caused flooding in Cua Can Commune, making many local households evacuate.

The Special Task-Force Battalion of the Southwestern Mobile Police Regiment, stationed in Phu Quoc District, sent many working groups with dozens of police officers and soldiers to rescue people and minimize the losses caused by the natural disasters.

In Hau Giang, heavy rains and thunderstorms have destroyed 38 houses and unroofed 156. The total loss amounted to nearly 2.5 billion VND. Phung Hiep District is the most affected area with 59 houses unroofed, 12 collapsed while crops areas were seriously damaged.

The Hau Giang provincial authority sent working groups to storm-hit localities and provided supports for local people. The local police and military forces were mobilized to help local people stablize their lives.

In Can Tho City, 100 houses were damaged during the storm. Thoi Lai District is the most affected area with 42 houses damaged. Heavy rains and winds also blew trees, electric poles and advertisement billboards down.

The Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and Search and Rescue of Can Tho City immediately provided 150 million VND to Thoi Lai District and 50 million VND to O Mon District in support of flood-affected people.
