Mrs. Phung Thi Nguyet, residing at Tan Thanh ward, Dien Bien Phu city, lost her scooter 2 months ago while she put it in her house's front yard.
Thanks to the nearby security cameras, the local investigation police team for social order-related crime quickly found the thief, who was Bui Van Hoang, aged 22, residing at Pom Lot commune, Dien Bien district.
Lieutenant Colonel Cao Xuan Quang, leader of the investigation police team for social order-related crime said, that was one of the many successfully handled criminal cases with the aid of the "magical security eye".
In this case, the local police force analyzed the photos recorded by the cameras to detect and arrest the burglar. The scooter was then returned to Mrs. Phung Thi Nguyet.
Senior Colonel Vu Tien Dung, Director of the Dien Bien Phu Municipal Police said, burglaries and robberies had happened in the locality for the past many years, risking and complicating the local security situation.
In order to raise people's consciousness of self-protection of asserts, contributing to preventing crimes, over the past time, the Dien Bien Municipal Police Department has requested its subordinate units in 9 wards and communes to mobilize local households and business establishments living near major roads to install in security cameras. This would help to protect their assets and also provide important photos and data for the police force in time to conduct investigation into the case.
In 2017, there were 388 security cameras installed by local households and businesses. These "magic security eye" systems have aided the local police in successfully handling 30 criminal cases and returning many valuable assets to the people.
Some arrested rejected their offences, but when the investigation agency showed them the images and the video clips recorded by the "security cameras", they finally had to admit their guilts.
