More patients with varicella in Hanoi hospitalized

PSNews-An increasing number of people with varicella or chicken pox have been hospitalized in various hospitals in Hanoi due to unusualweather changes and day-night temperature differences, according to the Department of Preventive Health, the Ministry of Health.

Many people at different ages have been hospitalized in E Hospital recently, with the common symptoms of high fever, vesicle spreading on the face and body ache, said Doctor Le Ngoc Thanh, Director of E Hospital. Particularly, people are at high risk of catching this kind of disease if they have not been vaccinated; have not yet experienced the disease;or are exposed to chicken pox patients.

The hospital has received and treated over 20 patients with chicken pox over the last 1 month, said Doctor Vu Manh Cuong, Head of the Tropical Disease Department under the E Hospital. Luckily, no patient has so far suffered any serious and deadly complications.

Children from 2 to 8 are the most vulnerable to the disease, however, adults may contract chicken pox if without appropriate prevention measures. Particularly, pregnant women with chicken pox may probably suffer more serious complications.

The World Health Organization warns that everyone should be vaccinated against chicken pox twice. The vaccine can be administered to children from one year old and adults who have never experienced chicken pox in their lives. Recently, E Hospital has established a special division to provide Varivax vaccine (made in the US) at a cost of 600,000 VND / dose.
