Movitel chosen by WB to run $20.5 million project in Mozambique

PSNews - Movitel, Viettel’s brand in Mozambique, was recently chosen by the World Bank as one of its partners to run a project to improve the quality of life and access to financial services for needy people in rural and remote areas of Mozambique.

The WB’s project is divided into 6 sub-projects implemented in 6 different areas and totally costs$35 million.

Movitel will participate in 3 out of the 6 sub-projects, with a total value of $20.5 million.

Mr. Do Manh Hung, General Director of Viettel Global, emphasized that Movitel has been selected to carry out a major project of the WB in Mozambique primarily as ithas the advantage in network coverage and superior infrastructure. It is also the only enterprise in Mozambique to offer the most comprehensive technical solution supporting local people in withdrawing and paying money to people in the region without mobile signal by using magnetic cards. Moreover, Movitel is a creditable company implementing various projects for the Government of Mozambique, including project to build public telecommunications stations and project to install an intra-network and provide network connection service for the local ministries.

From the beginning of July 2019, Movitel started part of the WB’s project in Nampula province with the total value of $6.4 million. When sub-project will be implemented within 3 years. When it is completed, it will provide money transfer / withdrawal services for 100,000 poor households in Nampula with a total transaction capacity of more than $1 million per month. Nampula,the business center in the North of Mozambique, is also known as the “Capital of the North”, with an area of 79,010 km² and a population of more than 4 million people.

After Nampula, Movitel will continue to implement another sub-project of the WB in other provinces, including Cabo, Niassa, Tete and Manica.

B2B is creating a new growth space for Viettel Global in international markets. In so doing, Viettel Global is gradually shifting from traditional telecommunications network services to IT solutions and digital transformation. Viettel Global’s subsidiaries in foreign markets have been selected for many large projects. Particularly, Bitel, Viettel’s brand in Peru, signed a contract worth $27 million with the Peruvian Ministry of Education; Telemor, Viettel’s brand in East Timor, signed 2 contracts worth more than $1 million with the Ministry of Communications and Transport and Ministry of Agriculture of East Timor. It is also implementing a series of B2B projects, such as surveillance camera project for the Ministry of Homeland Security and mobile service solution project in Tanzania; a project to build a Household Database network for the Lao Government; a project to develop an e-Government solution for the Cambodian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.
