MPS leader requests police to fight drug crimes in North Central region, Central Highlands

PSNews - Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc attended a meeting on April 22 in Quang Tri province to review the implementation of counter-narcotics plans of police forces in the Northern Central region and Central Highlands.

The event saw the presence of leaders of the Counter-Narcotics Police Department, other under-ministerial agencies, and representatives from the police forces in the 10 provinces of the North Central region and Central Highlands.

Reports delivered at the meeting read that, since the local police forces launched counter-narcotics campaigns in August 2021, the police forces in the North Central region and Central Highlands have successfully investigated 1,940 drug-related cases, arrested 3,123 people for illegally storing, trading, and transporting narcotics, seized 35kg of heroin, 400kg of synthetic drugs. Local police units also destroyed five drug dens, 66 hotspots of drug-related crimes.

They also coordinated with Customs, Border Guard, and Coast Guard forces to handle some 16 cases, arrest 24 people involved, seize 24kg of meth, nearly 80,000 pills of synthetic drugs while coordinating with the police of Laos in a joint operation to suppress large-scaled cross-border drug trafficking rings.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc praised the local police forces for their excellent work results in the last 6 months.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that in the coming time, the provinces of the North Central region and Central Highlands will still be key areas for illicit drugs trafficking; therefore, the local police should take more effective measures to fight this type of crime.

He also asked the Counter-Narcotics Police Department to continue guiding local police in implementing the plans and support them in attacking  large-scaled, transnational drugs trafficking rings.

* On the morning of the same day, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc and his entourage visited the police post in Ward 1, Dong Ha city. The Deputy Minister also came to offer incense to commemorate martyrs at the National Road No. 9 Martyrs' Cemetery.
