MPS reviews police work during traditional Tet

PSNews – The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on February 21 organized a teleconference to review results of the police force in their operations and activities of ensuring security and order during the traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) under the directions of the Party, State and the MPS.

The conference was attended by leaders of the Central Party Committee of Public Security, the MPS and relevant units under the MPS.

Major General Luong Tam Quang, Chief of the Office of the MPS, briefed the participants on national- and local-level situations related to security and order during the Tet from February 14 to 20, 2018, (from 29 December to 5 January of the lunar calendar). 

Accordingly, the police force had implemented the directions of the Party, the State and the MPS in a proactive, synchronous and effective manner to ensure security and order during the Tet. 

Before, during and after the holiday season, leaders of the MPS and leaders of police units at all levels intensified checks and gave directions on seriously maintaining standby forces, combat readiness posture as well as security and order in localities, especially in key areas, during the Tet. 

All police units had actively drawn up specific plans, thoroughly grasped the situations and quickly solved emerging issues in their designated localities and fields; and at the same time taken intensive measures to ensure security and order during the Tet according to the guidance of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and the Prime Minister.

Specifically, the police force nationwide investigated 222 cases, arrested 281 criminals, 57 drug-related subjects, 1,365 gamblers, 44 wanted fugitives. Noticeably, the functional police force and local police of Thanh Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City had successfully investigated a fatal shooting in Thanh Hoa and a five-people murder in Ho Chi Minh City. 

According to reports of the police units and local authorities, the country saw 415 criminal cases during the Tet (7 days), down by 40 cases (10.6%) in comparison with the same period of the previous Tet or three times lower than the weekly average of the month before Tet. 

The traffic order and safety were also maintained, and there were no reports on especially serious traffic accidents or terrible traffic congestions on main highways, in centers of big cities or at BOT stations; illegal motorcycle race were also not seen.

Minister To Lam recognized and praised the efforts by the whole police force to overcome difficulties and excellently accomplish their tasks during the Lunar New Year of 2018. 

He also recognized and applauded many police units for their outstanding achievements in crime prevention and fight as well as the successful investigations into the serious cases.

Minister To Lam requested nationwide police units to promptly implement their key tasks and plans set out for the first quarter of 2018; continue campaigns against criminal activities to ensure security after the Lunar New Year Festival. 

He especially asked the police force to concentrate on the fight against criminal, drug-related, economic and environmental and high-tech crimes while cracking down on dangerous criminal gangs and groups, seriously punishing those who attacking on–duty officers, intentionally causing injuries and disturbance of public order as well as controlling thefts, robberies and other kinds of social evils, especially at spring festivals and on the roads. 

The Minister also instructed the police sector to actively coordinate with relevant ministries, branches and localities to ensure security and order at all spring festivals; intensify checks of the organization of festive activities; closely watch conditional business activities of organizations and individuals in order to promptly detect, prevent and strictly handle law offences and security and order disturbances.
