Speaking at the webinar, Minister - Chief of the Governmental Office Mai Tien Dung stated that, since its opening in December 2019, the national public service portal has achieved positive results, and reached the Government's goal of better serving the people and businesses.

Minister Dung said that, by May 18, the portal saw 37 million visits, over 142,000 accounts registered, over 7.5 million records uploaded and synchronised, along with over 71,000 applications being processed through the portal. It also received over 11,000 calls and 5,600 proposals from people and businesses.

The national public service portal has now run 405 online public services, including 232 ones dedicated to businesses.

In order to effectively support people and businesses facing difficulties due to COVID-19, since May 12, the portal has provided six additional public services.

Minister Dung added that the online public services have really supported people and businesses during the pandemic. Particularly, they have contributed to facilitating the disbursement of financial supports from the government’s VND62 trillion aid package for COVID-19 affected people and enterprises, as well as to detecting possible wrongdoings in releasing the aid package.

Expressing his delight at Vietnam's success in curbing the world-wide COVID-19 epidemic, the World Bank Vietnam Country Director, Ousmane Dione, said that  COVID-19 is a wakeup call for business leaders to step up the use of online public services as activities in an online environment will experience less disruption.

He also urged the government to continuously simplify business procedures, saying that this difficult time would serve as an impetus for the country to accelerate digital transformation.
