On-duty police officer dies in fight against suspect

PSNews - Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dung drew his last breath due to serious injuries after being attacked by a suspect with a knife while doing his duty. 

On December 25, the Tien Loi District Police Post received information that an unknown young man suspected of using drugs with a knife on his hand was rushing toward vehicles moving at the South Phan Thiet roundabout in Tien Loi Hamlet, Phan Thiet City, causing public disorder.

After being informed of the situation, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dung, Head of the Tien Loi Commune Police Post and a police officer raced to the scene to handle the case.

While Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dung was trying to settle down the situation, the unknown suspect suddenly used his knife to attack him and ran away. Not too long after that the suspect was arrested by the local police and people at Kilometer 6, Ham My Commune, Ham Thuan Nam District.

The suspect then stabbed himself with the knifeto commit suicide, but the police managed to stop him. He was then taken to the hospital.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dung was also taken to hospital, but he could not last out the same day due to his serious injuries,.

Leaders of the Binh Thuan Provincial Police Department and the Phan Thiet Municipal Police Sub-Department came to the hospital to give condolences to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dung. They also directed the local police force to quickly investigate the case.
