Police forces strive to prevent African swine fever from spreading to Southern localities

PSNews - In order to halt the spreading of the African swine fever (ASF), the Ministry of Public Security has directed the police units in southern provinces to set up checkpoints at the gateway to each locality.

According to the Binh Duong Provincial Police Department, when ASF appeared in northern provinces in the end of 2018, the Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee deployed an action plan to prevent ASF.

Since then, the Binh Duong police in collaboration with other agencies and units have carried out information dissemination drives in local communities to raise public awareness of ASF prevention while closely monitoring developments of the epidemic and taking all measures to prevent ASF from reaching locality.

The local traffic police in collaboration with other relevant agencies have deployed their forces around the clock over the past days.

An interdisciplinary inspection team constituted of the Provincial Economic Police Division, Market Management Authority, and Veterinary Agency has been formed, conducted mobile checks and inspected checkpoints on gateways to the province. The Binh Duong police also assigned its police officers to grasp the situation of neighboring localities, such as Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province to ensure that no pigs without clear origins could be transported to Binh Duong.

To minimize the risk of an AFS outbreak in the province, the Tay Ninh Provincial Police in collaboration with other functional forces have deployed an Emergency Response Plan.

In particular, the Tay Ninh police forces have closely cooperated with the Border Guard, the Customs and the Market Management forces to detect and strictly handle acts of illegal trading and transportation of ill pigs across the border.

According to the Tay Ninh Provincial Police Department, the Provincial People's Committee also issued a decision to set up 4 temporary animal quarantine checkpoints at the gateways to Tay Ninh with police officers on 24/24 watch. The local authority will set up more temporary checkpoints and interdisciplinary inspection teams in case the situation of the ASF epidemic becomes worse.

Dong Nai Province is considered as the gateway to the South, on which pigs and pork are often transported from the North to the South for consumption. Therefore, Dong Nai plays a very important role in preventing ASF from spreading to the southern region. This is also the largest pig breeding area in Vietnam with a total number of over 2.5 million pigs.

Under the direction of the Ministry of Public Security, the local traffic police in collaboration with other relevant agencies have deployed their forces around the clock over the past days.

According to the CAND Newspaper, the working team of the Road & Railway Police Division of the Dong Nai Provincial Police Department and the Traffic Police Squad of the Xuan Loc District Police have well coordinated with the local veterinarians and market management officers in monitoring and checking goods transport vehicles.
