Police in Central Highlands help victims of flood

PSNews – Heavy downpours over the past 2 days have made many communes of the two border districts of Buon Don and Ea Sup, Dak Lak Province deeply inundated. In order to ensure safety for the local people, hundreds of police and military officers and soldiers have been mobilized to evacuate people from flooded areas to safe places.

In Ia Lip and Ia Rve Communes, Ea Sup District, from August 7 night, a special team of mobile police, traffic police, military forces and militia force used canoes and tractors to evacuate local victims.

Many locals living in flooded areas in these communes were taken to the office of the Communal People’s Committee and other safe places. They were also provided with food and medicines.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thien Van, Secretary of the Ea Sup District Party Committee, over 10,000 houses in the two communes of Ia Rve and Ia Lop were inundated. The local authorities have mobilized forces to support them in overcoming the flood consequences.

He also said that, since the night of August 7, forces have evacuated nearly 100 households to safe places. The rescue and evacuation mission is still going on. The local authorities have also installed some warning signs in waterlogged areas.

By the morning of August 8, the Dak Lak Provincial Police Department had mobilized over 500 police officers and soldiers in collaboration with the local military force to rescue and evacuate hundreds of people.

Meanwhile, in Buon Ma Thuot City, a high level of floodwater has isolated many areas. According to Mr. Luong Van Thiep, owner of a hatchery in Nguyen Du street, due to heavy downpours on August 8 morning, his fish farm was flooded, causing terrible losses.

Since the afternoon of August 8, several sections on the National Highway 28 connecting Dak Lak and Lam Dong Provinces have been flooded, causing terrible traffic congestions. The Dak Lak Provincial Traffic Police Force has come there and regulated traffic flows to avoid incidents on the routes.

On same day, a delegation of the Dak Lak provincial authority led by the Secretary of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee and the Chairman of the People’s Committee visited flooded areas and inquired after, presented gifts to the victims, and encouraged the rescue forces.

According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Nghi, Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee, the local military and police forces in collaboration with the 5th Military Region were working hard in support of local people.

“All people stuck in flooded areas must be taken to safe places. They must also be provided with sufficient food and drinks so that no-one would be hungry”, he said.
