Police in central provinces help people overcome consequences of Storm 8 and respond to Storm No.9

PSNews – Storm No.9, as known as Molave, is expected to land in Central Vietnam on October 28. The local police forces in storm-affected provinces and cities are working hard to help locals respond to the storm. 

*In Quang Nam, according to Major General Nguyen Duc Dung, Director of the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department, the provincial police leadership has directed its subordinate units to draw up plans on search, rescue and disaster relief activities following the motor “Four on-spot forces.”

The local police forces are asked to be on duty around the clock. All police officers must be ready to undertake missions upon request. Meanwhile, leaders of police units should ensure safety for their officers and soldiers while they perform duties during the storm.

*In Quang Ngai, the leadership of the local police force has directed local police units to ensure security and order while ready forces and means to help people during and after Storm No.9. The local traffic police are asked to guild and control the traffic in flood-affected areas and ensure safety for people and vehicles on the road.

On October 26, Mr. Dang Van Minh, Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee signed a dispatch banning all watercraft from operating at sea from 20:00 until further notice.  Localities in the province are also required to evacuate people to safe places and mobilize local forces to support the evacuation.

*In Danang, on October 26, Director of the Danang Municipal Police Department held an urgent meeting to roll out plans to prevent storms and heavy rains, floods and landslides.

Accordingly, the local police forces are asked to ready forces and means for search, rescue and disaster relief missions while ensuring safety for people and assets.

*In Thua Thien Hue, according Colonel Nguyen Thanh Tuan, Director of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police Department, in order to respond to the storm, the local police force has coordinated with local functional forces to review plans and prepare forces and means to evacuate people from high risk areas and ensure safety for people and tourists; guide and control the traffic in flood-affected areas. They also prepare forces, materials and means to deal with possible incidents and ensure smooth traffic on main traffic axes.

The local forces will also actively and promptly detect and handle anyone taking advantage of the disaster situation to make money.

*In Quang Tri, although floodwater has receded, many localities are still isolated due to landslides and subsidence. The local police forces have actively repaired and cleared mud and soil from local roads, facilitating the transportation of relief aid to flood-hit people.

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Duc Cam, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Provincial Police Department, the local police forces actively called for donation for people in flood-affected localities.

In particular, the communal police posts in Gio Linh and Dakrong District, and the police post in Trieu Giang Commune, Trieu Phong District have handed over 15,000 packs of gifts, world billions of VND to flood victims.

Currently, the local police officers and soldiers in flood-affected areas are helping people overcome the consequence of the flooding, clean up the environment, and fortify houses and buildings in response to Storm No.9.
