Police in Mekong Delta promote “inter-family fire safety group” model

PSNews – The model of “inter-family fire safety groups” has overcome limitations and proved to be effective in fire prevention and rescue at residential areas and household enterprises in the Mekong Delta.

The residential group 1A, My Hoa ward, Long Xuyen city was earlier selected to pilot the “inter-family fire safety group” model in An Giang province.

It has 54 members, 20 fire extinguishers, and fire fighting tools.

According to Chief of the My Hoa Ward Police Post Lieutenant Colonel Vo Viet Hung, in 2022, there were 2 fires occurred in the ward with a total property loss of 90 million VND.

Against this backdrop, the local police unit surveyed residential areas in the ward and gave people fire prevention knowledge and skills and finally piloted the model in locality.

The establishment of the inter-family fire safety group has helped people learn skills to prevent fire and escape from fire.

Deputy Chief of the Long Xuyen City Police Station Colonel Dang Van Tinh stated, the establishment of the inter-family fire safety group has helped people learn skills to prevent fire and escape from fire, as well as raised local people’s awareness of fire prevention in their residential areas.

Recently, the police in Phuoc Long district, Bac Lieu province also launched the “inter-family fire safety group” and “public fire and rescue station” models in Noi O hamlet, Phuoc Long town.

The inter-family fire safety group consists of 10 neighboring households, each of which is equipped with a portable fire extinguisher and a fire alarm to notify other people when fire occurs.

Meanwhile, the public fire and rescue station model is set up in alleys, market areas and enterprises where fire trucks cannot approach.

Each station has at least 2 fire extinguishers, one portable pump and some firefighting equipment.

The “inter-family fire safety group” and “public fire and rescue station” models were also launched in Xuan Khanh ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city. The local police force considers the inter-family fire safety group as an efficient on-spot firefighting force.

At the launching ceremony of the model, the fire police team in Ninh Kieu district also introduced the locals to the fire warning application (114).

In Tra Vinh city, Tra Vinh province, the Ward 3 People’s Committee in cooperation with the Fire Police Division under the Tra Vinh Provincial Police Department also launched the first “inter-family fire safety groups” model in residential group No.2.

According to the local authority, this is an effective fire prevention model, which can mobilize the entire political system and local people to participate in fire prevention and fighting.
