Thang died while taking part in a search and rescue operation during the recent flood in Huong Hoa district.
Earlier on October 17, the Huong Viet authority set up a search rescue team to search for 7 missing local people. During the search, the team was hit by a flash flood in couple with landslide.
Captain Thang died on spot, a border guard officer and a local official were injured while 4 others were still missing.
