President congratulates education sector on new school year

President Tran Dai Quang sent a letter of congratulations to the educational sector, pupils and students’ parents across the country on August 31, on the occasion of the upcoming new academic year 2018-2019.

In his letter, President Quang congratulated the education sector on its positive results and achievements in the past school year, with its continuous efforts in carrying out fundamental and comprehensive education and training reform to improve the quality of education at all levels.

He expressed his pleasure to witness Vietnamese students attending the Olympiad contests and other regional and international scientific and technical competitions, with many students winning high prizes, while the Vietnam National University Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City branches were listed among the 1,000 best universities in the world for the first time.

The senior leader urged the education sector to continue implementing comprehensive education and training reforms in the new school year, in order to develop high-quality human resources for the national cause of industrialisation, modernisation and international integration.

He also asked for strengthening the State management and inspection over education to timely detect and tackle any shortcomings to consolidate the educational development of the country.

More efforts should be made to the development of education and training in mountainous, remote and ethnic minority areas, he said, urging for more attention to be given to the children of policy beneficiaries to ensure equal access to education for all people.

He also expressed his hope that teachers would retain their passion for the cause of education and innovation in teaching. He suggested that students uphold the national learning tradition and nurture their ambition to emulate good learning and good practice to contribute to the country’s development in the future.

He ended his letter by wishing that teachers and educational officials, together with students across the nation, will achieve outstanding achievements in the new school year.
