PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a meeting on January 26 to review the Public Security Forces’ task performance in January 2022 and roll out work plans for next month. General To Lam, Politburo’s Member and Minister of Public Security chaired the event.

Reports read that, in the face of COVID-19 complicated developments and crime situation, the MPS directed local police forces to launch intensive campaigns to suppress crimes, maintain political security, ensure social order and safety, create a stable and peaceful environment for agencies, organizations, businesses and people to realize guidelines, policies of the Party, State, National Assembly, and Government, contributing to gearing up the socio-economic recovery as well as controlling the pandemic. 

The police forces nationwide successfully investigated 3,122 cases of social order crimes and arrested 7,703 related people. They also dismantled 123 criminal gangs, investigated 4,108 cases of drug-related crime, arrested 6,091 drug traffickers, seized more than 101 kg of heroin, 226 kg and 242,000 synthetic drug pills. Thanks to good preventative measures, the crime commission rate in the month decreased 9.08% compared to December 2021 and 14.93% compared to the same period in 2021.

The MPS also launched an campaign to ensure traffic order and safety at the beginning of the 2022 New Year and before the traditional Tet.In the campaign, the traffic police handled some 249,000 traffic safety violations, fined some VND 271 billion VND, impounded nearly 40,000 vehicles. Thereby, traffic accidents have decreased 28.19% in terms of number, 13.74% of death, and 37.41% of injury. 

In addition, the MPS has directed under-ministerial agencies and local police units to strongly popularize fire safety regulations to people and inspect fire prevention and fighting plans of businesses and households. In January, the police forces conducted 71 rescue missions and saved 33 people from fires.

Addressing the meeting, Minister To Lam requested the Public Security Forces to safeguard important establishments and projects as well as political, cultural and social events of the country, and activities of Party and State leaders. Particularly, he asked the forces to ensure security and safety for people during the 2022 Lunar New Year (Tet). 

The Minister also asked the Public Security Forces to pay due attention to implementing projects and tasks assigned by the Government and the Prime Minister, including the scheme on the application of the National Population Data, the project to carry out level-3, level-4 public services for people, and the legislation program of the MPS.

 Minister To Lam stressed that, all under-ministerial agencies and provincial-level police departments should effectively prevent crimes while ensuring fire safety for markets and trade centers, strengthen patrols to maintain traffic order and prevent traffic congestions at metropolises’ gateways during Tet.  

He also asked leaders of police agencies and units to pay Tet visits and present gifts to policy beneficiary families, revolution contributors, former leaders, officers, soldiers and employees of the People's Public Security Forces, especially communal police officers in border, remote disadvantaged areas on the occasion of the 2022 Lunar New Year of Tiger.
