Public security forces strengthen prevention and control of dengue fever

PSNews- Leaders of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) requested police units at all levels to strengthen the prevention and control of dengue fever in their localities.

Dengue fever (Dengue) has witnessed complicated developments with an increasing number of patients all over the country. Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are the two largest outbreaks of the epidemic in the country.

Since the beginning of 2017, Vietnam has recorded over 80,000 cases and 24 deaths related to dengue, a rise in numbers of both cases and deaths compared with the same period of 2016.

As soon as the epidemic has shown signs of increasing, the Ministry of Public Security's Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control has signed a Directive to instruct the general departments, the high commands, units under the MPS; directorates of provincial police departments; directorates of provincial fire prevention departments to enhance dengue prevention and control.

Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Head of the MPS's Disease Prevention and Control Board noted that since the beginning of 2017, dengue fever has appeared in several police units, especially in some hostels of academies and colleges or mobile police regiments.

To enhance prevention of dengue, protect health of public security officers, students, public security employees, as well as inmates in prisons and reformatories, leaders of the MPS requested all public security units to enhance the dengue prevention and control.

Public security units must quickly strengthen their Steering Committees on Prevention and Control of Diseases, at the same time, promote information dissemination and education to raise public awareness about the epidemics.

Units should also deploy drastic mosquito and larvae-killing campaigns, with a focus on construction sites, barracks, and populous areas in order to minimize risks of dengue epidemics within the forces.

Public security forces are also asked to guide people how to prevent the epidemics, protect public health, and at the same time be ready to take urgent measures to control and put out possible epidemics, contributing to maintaining political security and ensuring social order and safety in various situations.
