Quang Nam police build stations for Lao counterpart

PSNews – The project of Quang Nam police to build stations for Lao police units in Xe Kong province has contributed to the strengthening traditional friendship and cooperation between the two sides and coordination in ensuring national security and social order and safety of each country.

The Vietnamese province of Quang Nam and the Lao province of Sekong share a 157-km borderline. Over the years, the police unit in the two provinces has well implemented the Agreement on Vietnam – Laos border regulation and maintained annual meetings, signed several development cooperation programs between the two sides.

Over the past few years, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS), the authority of Quang Nam Province and the Quang Nam police force have been investigating in many meaningful construction projects in Xe Kong Province, contributing to further tightening the close relationship between the two provinces in particular, and between the two countries in general.

The Quang Nam Provincial Police Department has actively coordinated with the Xe Kong Provincial Police Department to build 16 police stations in Laos.

In particular, under the direction of the leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department has actively coordinated with the Xe Kong Provincial Police Department to build 16 police stations in Laos, including 11 police stations in Dak Chung Districts, and 5 police stations in Ka Lum District.

From December 2021 to May 2022, the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department sent 10 working groups with over 80 police officers and soldiers to Laos to inspect and monitor the construction of police stations in Laos.

As a result, the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department became one of the 4 units among the 10 provinces bordering Laos to first complete the scheme of building stations for Lao police units garrisoned along the shared border under the direction of the Vietnamese MPS. As of May 2022, all 16 stations are handed over to Lao police units.

According to Major General Nguyen Duc Dung, Director of the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department, the project to build stations for police units in Lao villages bordering Quang Nam province has improved the working conditions for Lao police officers, at the same time contributing to promoting the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, and promoting the productive coordination between the Quang Nam police and Xe Kong police in ensuring security along the borderline as well as in drug crime prevention and control on the borderline.

Recently, under the agreement of leaders of the two provinces, the Quang Nam and Xe Kong police forces held the groundbreaking ceremony for the police station in Dak Chung District. The project is expected to be completed in 300 days.

This is a meaningful project to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 – 2022) and the 46th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 – 2023). It also contributes to strengthening the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in general, and the two provinces of Quang Nam and Xe Kong in particular.
