Reputable persons of ethnic minorities play significant role in Can Tho City

PSNews - The Can Tho Municipal Police Department on June 26 held a conference to review the 10-year implementation of the Can Tho Municipal People's Committee's plan "Promoting the role of reputable persons of ethnic minorities in building and protecting our homeland."

The event saw the presence of Major General Bui Quang Hai, Director of the Southwest Security Department under the Ministry of Public Security.

Over the past time, the local police force has disseminated and provided information to reputable persons in Can Tho City of the conspiracies and activities of hostile forces, especially their conspiracy to make use of issues related to ethnic minorities to sabotage the Party and the State.

The local functional forces also supported and encouraged reputable persons in popularizing and mobilizing their communities to voluntarily participate in revolutionary movements launched by local authorities, particularly the movement "All people protecting national security" and "Building up a cultural life in residential area."

As a result, local reputable persons and ethnic minority people have reported 3,000 pieces of information related to security and order, including information about tricks of hostile and reactionary forces to the local police, helping the functional forces control crimes of all kinds.

According to Mr. Le Van Tam, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho Municipal People's Committee, after 10 years implementing the plan, reputable persons have now become a bridge connecting the authorities and the local ethnic minorities.

He also suggested improving the efficiency of reputable persons' dissemination and mobilization in accordance with the situations, customs and habits of various local ethnic minority communities.

On this occasion, the Can Tho Municipal People's Committee also presented Certificates of Merit to 12 organizations and 16 individuals with outstanding achievements in the 10-year implementation of the plan.
