The article was recently published on the political analysis page of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).

The purpose of its publication is to affirm that the country is viewed as a "middle power" by international scholars and partners need to listen to the opinion of this "Asian tiger" in international affairs.

Vershinina went on to hail the development speed of the Vietnamese economy, despite the world economy facing a period of turbulence.

According to the author, the nation is one of the few countries that is still capable of maintaining external economic activities and a positive growth engine, even in the context of the global pandemic and the enforcement of strict social distancing measures.

According to several forecasts, this year is likely to see the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth range from 5.5% to 6.7%, thereby showing the stability of the Vietnamese economic development model.

Boasting an open economy, the country has actively exported products to the world market, taking the lead globally in terms of cashew exports, as well as coming second in coffee and rice exports. This has seen the nation attract a lot of foreign direct investment (FDI), with total FDI reaching US$31.15 billion in 2021, as well as the nation joining 17 trade agreements.

Regarding foreign policy, Vershinina emphasised the country’s recent remarkable achievements, such as successfully hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in 2017 and the historic meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in 2019.

Most notably, despite enduring difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation has successfully assumed the role of ASEAN chair, significantly expanded this association's agenda, completed negotiations, and signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement

At the UN forum, Vietnam kicked off a wide range of activities in the role of President of the UN Security Council in April, 2021.

Concerning bilateral relations, the author of the article affirms that joint ties enjoy a rich and long-standing history of development. The status of the comprehensive strategic partnership therefore reflects the multifaceted nature of bilateral co-operation and the high level of trust between the two nations, the piece concluded.
