“Smart commune” model operates effectively in Thua Thien Hue

PSNews – Quang Tho Commune of Quang Dien District is the first locality in Thua Thien Hue province that is piloting the “smart commune” model with the extensive application of IT to promote local socio-economic development and tourism and ensure security, order and traffic safety.

According to Mr. Hoang Cong Phong, Chairman of the Quang Tho Commune People’s Committee, in implementation of the national digital transformation program by 2025, with an orientation for 2030, Thua Thien Hue Province has piloted the smart commune model in Quang Tho since March 2021.

In particular, the local authority has set up a smart management office and installed 7 free wifi hotspots in 8 hamlet, as well as 20 security cameras to monitor the situation along provincial, inter-district and inter-hamlets roads, and local agencies and schools.

After 3 months, the model has initially brought about a number of benefits, such as facilitating the environment of aquaculture, promoting tourism by virtual reality technology, and supporting COVID-19 prevention and control.

Especially, since the model was put into operation, the political security and social security and order situation in the area has been maintained.

Captain Tran Thanh Nhat, Deputy Head of the Quang Tho Commune Police Post affirmed that the security camera system has helped the local police closely monitor the situation and quickly detect law offences and fire incidents.

Many local residents agreed that the smart commune model has helped improve people’s awareness of traffic safety, thereby reducing traffic accidents. Thanks to the security cameras, people are more aware of environmental protection.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Thang, Chairman of the Quang Dien District People's Committee, the operation of the smart commune model aims to narrow the digital gap between rural and urban areas, at the same time promoting the application of IT and digital transformation in local authority management to better serve and interact with the people.

Recognizing the initial results of the smart commune model in Quang Tho, the Quang Dien District authority has registered to deploy the model in 3 other communes, namely Quang Thai, Quang Loi and Quang Phu, which will serve as a basis to replicate the model across the district.
