Son La police strives to maintain peaceful life in border area

PSNews – With its outstanding achievements in the movement “For Fatherland’s Security” in 2017, the Son La Provincial Police was nominated by the Emulation Grouping 2 and the Council for Emulation and Rewards of the Ministry of Public Security to receive the “Excellent Emulation” Flag from Prime Minister. 

Senior Colonel Tran Anh Tuan, Director of the Son La Provincial Police said that, from the beginning of 2017, under the directions of the Central Party Committee of Public Security, Ministry of Public Security and Son La Provincial authorities, , the Son La provincial police force deployed synchronously measures to firmly grasp the security situation from the grassroots level while following the slogan “innovative, active, attached to local levels, disciplined, responsible, effective.”

The most significant achievement made by the unit in 2017 was its successful implementation of Resolution No.4 of the 12th Party Central Committee and the Directive No.5 of the Politburo on studying and following thought, morals and style of Ho Chi Minh, in association with all the movements and campaigns launched by the Ministry of Public Security.

In 2017, the Son La Police chose Project No.16 on “Improving the quality of Party building and building of the Son La police force in the new situation” as its core mission, and appraised the unit’s police work based on the criteria set by the project.

During the year, the unit actively advised provincial leaders to implement effectively a plan to make positive changes in localities with complex security and order situations while boosting the movement “All people protecting national security” and joining relevant units to directly handle complaints and petitions related to land compensations.

In 2017, the Son La police organized 97 training courses at commune and village levels on laws, security and order, to improve the quality and operational expertise for 7,290 communal semi-policemen; maintained 17,344 self-management inter-family groups to manage drug-addicts at the local communities.

The unit also implemented many social charity activities, donate over 500 million VND in support of needy local people, deployed over 1,000 police officers and soldiers with over 15,000 working days to conduct rescue and natural disaster relief missions in 3 districts namely Muong La, Phu Yen and Van Ho to overcome the consequence of the recent floods.

In 2017, the rate of investigated and solved criminal cases reached 94.3%, in which all serious criminal cases reached were successfully solved. The local police uncovered and investigated 1,055 cases and arrested 1,661 drug-related subjects; seized 112 kg heroin, 72.6 kg opium; arrested 83 wanted fugitives (or 133% of the 2017 target). The Son La police also launched 26 commune-level mobilizations to recover weapons and explosives from people. During the mobilization, the local people voluntarily handed over 3,558 guns of all kinds, 6 grenades and a bomb.

 2017 was also a year of many important political, economic, cultural and social events in Son La province, especially the series of events entitled “Vietnam – Laos Friendship Year 2017” with 4 national-level events. The provincial police mobilized thousands of police officers and soldiers for the events and successfully ensured absolute security and safety for thousands of delegates and people attending the events.

Besides, the Son La police actively advised and supported the provincial authority to organize the meeting between the Son La armed forces and the armed forces of nine provinces in northern Laos to step up the implementation of their coordination plan on fighting trans-border drug-related crimes and strengthen solidarity between the countries in general and between the Son La police force and the Lao police force of the northern provinces.
