At about 11.30 pm on August 23, a working group of the Hanoi Municipal Traffic Police Division including Lieutenant Nguyen The Huy, Captain Dang Hoang Ha, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Tuan and Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Nhan while patrolling on the left bank of the Red River (in Vong La Commune, Dong Anh District, Hanoi City) suddenly heard a woman crying for help.

The working group immediately raced to the scene and looked for the victim. They then saw the woman drifting on the middle of the river. Some police officers quickly rowed and plunged a lifebuoy toward the victim.

When the boat was near the drowning woman, Lieutenant Nguyen The Huy jumped off the boat, swam to the girl and pulled her up to the boat. The police officers then took her to hospital for treatment.

On same night, the working mission also collaborated with the local authority to identify the victim and look for her family.

The victim, whose name is Nguyen Thu T. (born in 2002, residing in Dong Anh District, Hanoi City), tried to commit suicide by throwing herself into the river because of her various difficulties in life.

The girl has now regained her consciousness. Her family extended their sincere thanks to the traffic police officers for saving T’s life.
