The total fine for traffic violation also increased 31,89%, particularly fines for drink-driving and speeding up by 53% and 54,9% respectively.

Meanwhile, traffic accidents in Q1 decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2022 with the number of cases down by 15.5%, the number of deaths down by 14.8%, and the number of injured people down by 8.6%.

The traffic police also coordinated with other forces in detecting 103 criminal, economic and illicit drug trafficking cases with 144 suspects arrested while uncovering 39 cases of smuggling and commercial fraud involving 28 suspects, contributing to preventing crime on traffic routes.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long acknowledged and praised the nationwide traffic police force for its good results of work over the past time, and conveyed the commendation of the Party and State leaders and the Minister of Public Security for the achievements and efforts of the traffic police force in ensuring traffic safety.

Pointing out the shortcomings and limitations in the work of ensuring traffic safety, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long asked the police units and traffic police force to focus on exactly analyzing and assessing the causes of the problems, and work out solutions for these problems, contributing to reducing traffic accidents in a sustainable way.

The provincial-level police departments should continue to direct their traffic police subunits to drastically implement the contents of Plan No.299 and Directive No.05 issued on February 3, 2023 by the Minister, while resolutely handling violations more likely leading to traffic accidents, such as driving under the influence, speeding, wrong lane driving, illegally overloded and oversized vehicles.
