Vietnam and Thailand promote security ties

PSNews - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, is now in Thailand to attend the 11th meeting of the Vietnam-Thailand Joint Working Group on Political-Security Cooperation (JWG-11).

The Vietnamese delegation includes representatives of Ministries of Public Security, Foreign Affairs, Defense, Finance, Justice, Agriculture and Rural Development, the Government Office, the People's Supreme Procuracy, the State Bank of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand.

The Thai delegation was headed by General Wanlop Rugsunaoh, Secretary-General of Thailand’s National Security Council.

At the JWG-11 meeting, the two sides agreed that the Vietnam – Thailand traditional friendship has been consistently strengthened while the bilateral relations have developed in all fields, particularly politics, economy, culture, society, education, security and defense.

The delegates also highlighted the importance of the joint working group mechanism on political-security cooperation, which has significantly contributed to enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries in a more practical and deeper manner, for mutual benefits of the two peoples.

They also discussed regional and international issues impacting on political and security cooperation between the two countries, and reviewed bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics, security, intelligence, defense, as well as prevention and combat of transnational crime, and legal and justice affairs.

The two sides agreed on the contents and directions for the political-security cooperation between the two nations in the coming period, so as to contribute to effectively implementing the action plan for the Vietnam – Thailand strategic partnership.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam and other senior officials paid a courtesy call to General Prawit Wongsuwan Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security of Thailand. The delegation also visited various local landmarks and played sports for friendship with their Thai peers.

Vietnam will host the 12th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Political-Security Cooperation.
