Vietnam, Azerbaijan committed to strengthening cooperation in crime prevention and law enforcement

As part of the state visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan by Party General Secretary To Lam, Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang had talks with the host country’s Minister of of Internal Affairs Vusal Eyvazov and Director of the State Security Service Ali Naghiyev on May 8, in Baku.

During the talks, the head delegates exchanged views on the political, socio-economic and security situations in their respective countries.

They also expressed high appreciation for the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Azerbaijan over the past 30 years, marked by fruitful cooperation across various sectors.

Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that the elevation of Vietnam - Azerbaijan diplomatic ties to a strategic partnership marks a new phase of development in bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics, diplomacy, trade, investment science and technology, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges.

Based on the foundations, the guest suggested that the bilateral cooperation in the fields of security and law enforcement should also be elevated to an appropriate level, especially when the two nations share mutual needs for safeguarding national security, territorial sovereignty and social order for a peaceful, prosperous and stable society in each nation.

At the talks, the two sides discussed a number of orientations to expand bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

Accordingly, the two sides agreed to further promote exchanges of delegations at all levels, particularly at the expert level, to explore needs, potentials and opportunities for the two countries to expand cooperation in responding to both traditional and non-traditional security threats.

In addition, the two sides need to consider negotiating and signing legal documents to boost bilateral cooperation, particularly agreements and memorandums of understanding on crime prevention and capacity building of law enforcers.

The two sides also agreed to establish a mechanism for information exchange, closely coordinate to investigate and handle transnational criminal cases, join efforts to arrest internationally wanted fugitives through bilateral mechanisms or INTERPOL channels, as well as promptly respond to each other’s request for criminal verification and extradition.

Furthermore, the head delegates pledged to strengthen mutual support in international security and law enforcement forums in which both countries participate.

Finally, the two sides committed to joining efforts to protect visits of top leaders of one country to the other as well as ensuring security and safety of one country’s citizens working, doing business, studying or travelling in the other country.
