Vietnam, India work to boost cooperation in fighting crime

PSNews - Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Son, Director of the Foreign Relations Department under the Ministry of Public Security recently held a phone talk with Mr. Tshering W. Sherpa, Director of the National Security Council Secretariat of India.

During the phone talk, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Son showed empathy with the losses of the Government and people of India during the second wave of COVID-19. He also congratulated India on its successes in controlling the pandemic over the past two weeks, hailing India’s free vaccination program for people aged 18-44.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Son highly appreciated the comprehensive strategic partnership in all fields between Vietnam and India, especially the effective coordination and mutual support between the two sides at multilateral forums.

He said that Vietnam thanked India for inviting a delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security to attend the 2nd Deputy Ministerial-Level Security Dialogue in India, scheduled to take place in July or August.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Son hoped that Director General Tshering W. Sherpa would propose high-level leaders to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of security, crime prevention and control, contributing to realizing the contents of the Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Due to the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Son proposed to organize the conference between General To Lam, Vietnamese Minister of Public Security and Mr. AjitDoval, National Security Advisor of India, in July via an online platform.

For his part, Mr. Tshering W. Sherpa, Director of the National Security Council Secretariat of India, extended his thanks to the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and other ministries and branches for their supports for India during its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He also hailed Vietnam's efforts and effective COVID-19 prevention measures.

Mr. Tshering W. Sherpa affirmed that he will actively coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs as well as the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to enhance cooperation activities in the coming time and actively prepare for the teleconference between the two sides in July.

The Director of the National Security Council Secretariat of India also affirmed that he will promote negotiations to re-sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Security Council of India and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (signed in 2016) in a more substantive and effective manner.
