Vietnam makes large contribution to UN peacekeeping operations

PSNews - Deputy Minister Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang had a working session with Commander of the United Nations (UN) Police Faisal Shahkar on cooperation on peacekeeping operations, on January 11, in Hanoi.

Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang pledged that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam will continue to send individual police officers to participate in UN peacekeeping activities and is currently preparing personnel for the No.1 police squad to be deployed to UN peacekeeping activities on request.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang requested that the UN, through partner countries, support the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to train Vietnamese police officers in pre-deployment and assessment of mission service (AMS) in 2024 so that more officers from the Ministry of Public Security are qualified to participate in UN peacekeeping activities.

The host also expressed hope that the UN will support the Vietnamese side to train senior police officers as peacekeeping instructors.

The Deputy Minister wished that the UN would share information about UN peacekeeping missions that need police officers so that the Ministry of Public Security can assign Vietnamese police officers to apply for the positions. 

Specially, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam wishes to receive UN support to build a training center of peacekeeping so that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam can proactively train Vietnamese police officers according to the UN standards and contribute more police officers to UN peacekeeping activities in the future.

Commander Faisal Shahkar thanked Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, and  stated that the UN highly appreciates Vietnam's contributions to peacekeeping activities.

The country’s contribution to UN peacekeeping activities demonstrates that Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community. 

Mr. Faisal Shahkar also affirmed that the UN is always ready to support Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in particular to train forces to join UN peacekeeping activities.
