Vietnam MPS and Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs agree to expand cooperation

PSNews - As part of his visit to Malaysia to attend the Asia International Security Summit & Expo 2025 (AISSE’25), Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Pham The Tung, leading a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS), paid a courtesy call on Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Sincerely thanking the Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs for the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung underlined that the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia has continually been strengthened and deepened over the past 50 years, and the elevation of the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during the official visit of Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to Malaysia in November 2024 was the greatest achievement in Vietnam-Malaysia bilateral ties.

Deputy Minister Pham The Tung stated that, on that basis, Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security wishes to maintain and expand its cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia with the aim of elevating it to new heights commensurate with the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Pham The Tung suggested that the two sides should promote high-level delegation exchanges, strengthen established cooperation mechanisms as well as accelerate the negotiation and signing of a new agreement on crime prevention and control between the two governments, replacing the agreement signed in 2015.

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister also suggested that the two sides should coordinate in investigating criminal cases involving citizens of each country, tracking and arresting fugitives wanted by one country and hiding in the other, enhancing the effectiveness of judicial assistance in criminal matters, cooperation in extradition and transfer of sentenced persons, while creating favorable conditions and ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of one country’s citizens living and working in the other country.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail warmly welcomed Deputy Minister Pham The Tung and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam’s MPS to Malaysia to attend AISSE’25.
