Vietnam, Singapore seek to strengthen cooperation in cyber security

PSNews - Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, leading a high-level Vietnamese delegation, visited Singapore and attended the Milipol Asia-Pacific Exhibition - TechX Summit 2024, from April 3-5, at the invitation of Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law of Singapore K. Shanmugam.

At the courtesy meeting with Mr. K. Shanmugam at the Singapore Ministry of Justice Headquarters, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang thanked Mr. K. Shanmugam for the meeting as well as for inviting the Vietnamese delegation to the event.

Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang invited Mr. K Shanmugam to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the Singaporean side consider about negotiations on the signing of an extradition agreement and an agreement on transfer of sentenced persons to create a complete legal framework for law enforcement forces of the two countries to effectively fight transnational crime involving the two countries, and that the two sides early complete negotiations on a cooperation agreement on preventing and fighting transnational crime in 2024 to replace the 2018 Cooperation Agreement.

At the same time, the two sides need to strengthen cooperation in the field of cyber security and network safety so as to effectively prevent and combat cyber attacks cyber crime.

For his part, Mr. K.Shanmugam welcomed Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Singapore to attend the Milipol Asia-Pacific Exhibition and TechX Summit.

He also sent best regards to Minister of Public Security of Vietnam General To Lam.

Regarding the bilateral cooperation in the coming time, Minister K.Shanmugam strongly supported Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang’s suggestions, pledging that he would direct relevant Singaporean agencies to coordinate closely with the Vietnamese side to expand cooperation and effectively implement the signed cooperation deals in the coming time.

Later on, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang also paid a courtesy visit to Minister of Communications and Information of Singapore and Second Minister of Home Affairs of Singapore Josephine Teo.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation in maintaining cyber security, preventing and combating hi-tech crime.

On April 3, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang and the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the Milipol Asia-Pacific Exhibition – TechX Summit 2024, themed "Powering Innovation: A Safe and Secure Future", taking place at the Marina Bay Sands International Convention and Exhibition Center.

At the exhibition, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang and Vietnamese delegates visited booths of the Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) under the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore, Thales Group, ST Engineering Singapore Group and the Secretariat of ASEANAPOL.
