Vietnam, UK beef up cooperation in anti-human trafficking

PSNews - Within the framework of the working visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of the UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security on November 22 met Ms. Caroline Nokes, Deputy Home Minister and Mr. Mark Field, Deputy Foreign Minister. 

At the meeting, Ms. Caroline Nokes welcomed and highly appreciated the working visit of Minister To Lam and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to the UK. 

She stressed that the results of the dialogue between the two ministries on November 21 and the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on Anti-Human Trafficking " have important meaning, as they demonstrate the efforts and goodwill of the two sides in the fight against human trafficking - a key area that receives special attention from the UK Government. 

On behalf of the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese MPS, Minister To Lam thanked the UK Home Office and his British counterpart for their reception. Minister To Lam said that, in recent years, the Vietnamese MPS and the UK Home Office have coordinated closely in the fight against crime, contributing to the protection of national security, social order and safety of each country.

He also affirmed that the exchange of information on migration, immigration and repatriation is one of the most effective areas of cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS and the UK Home Office. Over the past time, the two sides have been seriously implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on immigration and immigration information exchange.

Regarding the future cooperation, the two sides agreed to promote direct communications on immigration, migration, and the return of illegally migrated Vietnamese citizens between the agencies articulated in the MoU. The two sides would also create favorable conditions for the citizens of one country to enter other country for working, travelling or studying and consider it as a method to reduce illegal migration and immigration.

At the meeting with Mr. Mark Field, Deputy Minister of UK Foreign Office, Minister To Lam and Mr. Mark Filed hailed the strong partnership between Vietnam and the UK since the signing of the strategic partnership in 2010, as well as the close cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS and the UK Foreign Office in crime prevention and fight, contributing to strengthen the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam said that the Vietnamese MPS hopes to continue to receive the support from the law enforcement agencies and the UK Foreign Office in the areas of mutual interests. He also hoped that the UK Foreign Office would create favorable conditions for the law enforcements agencies of the two sides to boost cooperation.

Within the working visit, Minister To Lam and the high-ranking delegation also visited and talked to the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK.

The two sides would also create favorable conditions for the citizens of one country to enter other country for working, travelling or studying and consider it as a method to reduce illegal migration and immigration.

At the meeting with Mr. Mark Field, Deputy Minister of UK Foreign Office, Minister To Lam and Mr. Mark Filed hailed the strong partnership between Vietnam and the UK since the signing of the strategic partnership in 2010, as well as the close cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS and the UK Foreign Office in crime prevention and fight, contributing to strengthen the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership.
