Vietnamese and Korean police committed to joining efforts to fight transnational crime

A high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister Major General Nguyen Van Long paid a working visit to the Republic of Korea from October 13-18, at the invitation of Commander of the Korean National Police Agency Yoon Hee Kun.

At the meeting with the Commander of the Korean National Police, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long suggested that the two sides create favorable conditions for their subordinate units, particularly Hanoi City police with Seoul police as well as Quang Ninh police with Incheon police to expand cooperation and information exchange while stepping up the implementation of the project "Improving the capacity of the Vietnamese traffic police force.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long also wished that the Korean side would open training courses in the Republic of Korea on countering crime with the use of high technology, cyber security, cyber fraud as well as analysis and recovery of electronic data as evidence for Vietnamese police officers.

He underlined the need to strengthen coordination between the two sides in tracking and catching fugitives of Vietnamese origin in the Republic of Korea as well as ensuring security and safety for citizens of one country living in the other.

Commander Yoon Hee Kun highly appreciated the cooperation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in capturing wanted criminals, especially the arrest and expatriation of a Korean bank robber hiding in Vietnam, saying that it demonstrated the effectiveness of cooperation between the police forces of the two countries.

He request the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to continue ensuring security and safety for Korean businesses and people living in Vietnam.

The commander affirmed that the Korean National Police Agency will continue to cooperate effectively with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in all fields, especially preventing and combating transnational crimes, training, and support projects, cultural and sports exchanges in 2024.

He underlined, “We hope that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam will participate in a network to receive and process international crime information.

Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam also visited the Fire and Rescue Agency of Seoul City, the Korean Coast Guard Training Center in Busan, Jeju Coast Guard Department, Seogwipo Coast Guard Department, Korea National Maritime University, Information Reception and Processing Center 119 (for fire, health emergency, rescue), Center 112 of Seoul Police to receive and process information about crimes, and Seoul Traffic Police Operations Center.

* On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the delegation met with the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea.
