Vietnamese MPS always attaches special importance to cooperation with Interpol

PSNews – A working delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security on April 11 worked with the General Secretariat of Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) in Lyon, France.

At the talk with Mr. Jurgen Stock, Secretary General of Interpol, on behalf of the Vietnamese Public Security Force, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh extended his thanks to the Interpol’s Secretary General and other relevant bodies of the Secretariat for their active supports to the Vietnamese law enforcement forces in general and the Vietnamese Public Security Forces in particular in sharing information, investigating international-level cases as well as in training Vietnamese public security officers through Interpol’s programs.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh stressed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) always attaches special importance to the cooperation with Interpol, particularly in law enforcement, prevention and fight against transnational crimes and new forms of crime. The Vietnamese MPS also well implemented programs and resolutions of the Interpol General Assembly, and actively participated in Interpol-led campaigns, considering them as its important tasks.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh hoped that the General Secretariat of Interpol will continue to support the Vietnamese Public Security Forces in crime prevention, personnel training and building of its capacity of fighting transnational crimes, in line with Interpol’s goal “Connecting police for a safer world.”

At the talk, Mr. Jurgen Stock highly valued the cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS with Interpol in exchanging information and experiences in prevention and fight against crime as well as cooperation in investigating and handling transnational organized crime cases and arresting internationally wanted criminals.

The Secretary General of Interpol highly appreciated the recommendations of Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh and promised to include them to its priorities and strategies to promote the cooperation between Interpol’s General Secretariat with other member countries and with Vietnam.

* On same day, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh had a talk with Mr. Meng Hongwei, President of Interpol. On behalf of the Vietnamese MPS, Deputy Ministry Nguyen Van Thanh congratulated Mr. Meng Hongwei on his successes in his position as the President of Interpol. He also hoped that Mr. Meng Hongwei will continuously direct Interpol to enhance its role as the coordinator of member countries in preventing and fighting crimes across the world.

Mr. Meng Hongwei highly valued the large contribution of the Vietnamese MPS to the operation of Interpol, and pledged to work with Interpol’s Executive Committee to develop new strategies to support its members, including Vietnam, in preventing and fighting transnational crime through the Interpol network.

* Also on same day, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh and the delegation of the Vietnamese MPS worked with some relevant organs of the General Secretariat, including Training and Capacity Building; IT; Fugitive Pursue.

All organs of the Interpol General Secretariat vowed to share with the Vietnamese side information about transnational crime, in support that the MPS of Vietnam can early take preventive measures to halt possible criminal activities on time, as well as effectively arrest Vietnamese fugitives fleeing to other countries and international fugitives hiding in the country.

Regarding capacity building, the two sides agreed to further support Vietnam in personnel training, especially in cybercrime, counterterrorism, environment crime, corruption.

* Within the framework of the working trip to France, the delegation of the Vietnamese MPS led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh also visited the Vietnamese Embassy in France.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Thiep briefed the delegation on the progress of the two sides’ implementation of commitments and cooperation agreements, including cooperation on security and defence, as well as measures to deal with non-traditional security challenges and threats arising from the fourth industrial revolution and globalization.
