General To Lam, Minister of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS) had a meeting with Mr. Marc Knapper, United States Ambassador to Vietnam, on March 23.
Minister To Lam congratulated Mr. Marc Knapper on his new position as the US Ambassador to Vietnam, hoping that the ambassador will continue strengthening the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the US.
Particularly, the two countries should promote security cooperation between specialized agencies through exchange of strategic information of mutual concern, develop the annual dialogue mechanism between the MPS and the US National Security Council, and speed up the signing of important deals on mutual legal assistance, extradition, and transfer of sentenced persons.
Minister To Lam also suggested the US side promote information exchange and cooperation in investigating criminal cases, tracking and transferring fugitives in line with each country’s laws in order to prevent Vietnamese run-away criminals from choosing the US as their haven.
He also asked the US to support the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in building capacity of its officers via professional training courses, transfer security technologies and provide crime control equipment.
For his part, Mr. Marc Knapper highlighted the positive developments in the bilateral cooperation and relationship between the two countries over the past time, and believed that the cooperation between the MPS and the US’s counterpart agencies will further be expanded, contributing to maintaining national security, social order and safety of each country.
