Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long works with Son La Provincial Police Department

PSNews - A delegation of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), led by Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, had a working session with the Son La Provincial Police Department to review the local police’s implementation of their mission of ensuring security and order in the province in the past time, on the afternoon of March 9, 2026.

At the working session, Director of the Son La Provincial Police Department Major General Dang Trong Cuong reported that the provincial police had proactively advised the Son La Provincial Party Committee and the Son La Provincial People’s Committee on comprehensive measures to control drug-related offences over the past time, in accordance with the directives of the Politburo, the Government and the Ministry of Public Security.

In addition, the Son La Provincial Police Department also issued a set of documents guiding relevant forces to prevent and control drug abuse and drug-related crimes in the province.

According to the report, from December 15, 2025 to March 6, 2026, the local police discovered and handled 246 cases of drug-related crimes involving 346 suspects. the police also seized exhibits included 5.5 kilograms of heroin, 207,677 synthetic drug pills, 34.3 kilograms of methamphetamine, 842 opium plants, four firearms and 40 rounds of ammunition, along with other related evidence.

Addressing the working session, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long commended the Son La Police Force for its achievements in preventing and combating drug-related crime in recent times.

He emphasized that the local police should give first and foremost priority to the mission of ensuring security and absolute safety for the upcoming elections. He requested the local police to avoid even the smallest mistake, thereby contributing to the successful organization of this major political event.

Further, the Deputy Minister requested the Son La Provincial Police Department to execute all of its work in an effective manner.

He urged the department to promptly deploy forces to the grassroots and security-sensitive areas, thoroughly grasp the security situations in localities, and promptly handle emerging issues.

He suggested that all relevant local police units and agencies soon finalize their comprehensive plans to ensure security and order for the elections and safeguard polling stations.

Regarding crime prevention and control, the Deputy Minister requested the Son La Provincial Police Department to strictly implement the Ministry’s guidelines on crime prevention and investigation procedures to avoid overlooking any criminal acts.

He also asked the Son La Provincial Police Department to continue implementing the Ministry’s plan on making a general report on the number of drug addicts, illegal drug users and individuals under post-rehabilitation management in the province, as well as to seek to eliminate drug hotbeds and complex drug-related locations, contributing to the implementation of the national target program on drug prevention and control and building drug-free communes and wards.
