Public Security Forces to proactively respond to natural disasters

PSNews – The Ministerial Office of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on March 30 issued a new dispatch requesting police units in Northern and North Central regions to brace for possible heavy rains, thunderstorms, tornadoes and hail.

The dispatch was sent to the Steering Committee for Climate Change, Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and Search and Rescue under the Ministry of Public Security, the Police Departments of Northern and North Central provinces and cities, the High Command of Mobile Police, the Department of Traffic Police, the Department of Fire Police, the Police Department of Management of Prison, Compulsory Re-education Center and Reformatory.

The dispatch states that:

Since the beginning of the year, the weather has been very complicated and unusual, with some harmful phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes and hail in some Northern and North Central provinces.

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, heavy rains and thunderstorms with possible tornadoes, hail and strong winds may occur in Northern and North-Central provinces from March 29 to April 7.

In order to actively respond to possible calamities, the MPS’s Office asked all above mentioned units to:

Strictly implement official dispatches from the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, the Office under the National Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue; and follow directions of the Ministry of Public Security and local authorities on responses to negative weather phenomena.

Closely monitor developments of the weather updated by the mass media to proactively take appropriate measures to address situations and approaches to ensure absolute safety for local people as well as police officers performing duties during natural disasters.

Collaborate with local functional forces and ready forces and means for rescue missions upon request; support disaster-affected people to overcome consequences; check areas at high risks of flash floods and landslides for appropriate plans to evacuate people to safe places and ensure security and order.

Assign forces to regulate and guide traffic flows in water-logged road sections and areas at high risks of landslide; resolutely prevent vehicles and people from travelling across unsafe areas.

Units should assign forces on 24/24h duty and regularly report situations to the MPS’s Office.
