Thua Thien Hue leveraging new international tourism markets

PSNews - The Terminal T2 of Phu Bai International Airport on July 2 received the first charter flight bringing 230 Chinese tourists from Kunming City to the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee, the province will increase frequency of domestic and international flights in the coming time to further promote local tourism sector.

In the first half of 2023, Thua Thien Hue Province welcomed more than 1,640,000, including over 567,000 foreign visitors, earning a total tourism revenue of roughly VND3,500 billion in the process.

The central region, which boasts numerous world heritage sites, beautiful beaches and classy resorts, has made a name for itself as “the central heritage road” or “the East-West Economic Corridor”.

It is home to many popular destinations, including Da Nang City dubbed the “gateway” linking the world heritage sites of My Son Sanctuary and the Ancient Town of Hoi An in Quang Nam province with the imperial city of Hue.

Among them, Thua Thien Hue is striving to become a major and distinctive cultural and tourist hub in Vietnam, focusing on smart tourism and making full use of the “Central Heritage Road” and the “East-West Economic Corridor.” 

The provincial tourism industry is therefore aiming to receive between three million and 3.5 million visitors this year, of which domestic tourists account for about 70% to 80% of the overall figure, with total tourism revenue reaching about between VND6,000 billion and VND7,000 billion.

Mr. Truong Thanh Minh, Director of the Thua Thien Hue Province’s Tourism Promotion Center, also revealed that the locality has been also working together with partners to develop air routes, such as Malaysia - Hue, Japan’s Osaka – Hue, and the Republic of Korea’s Incheon – Hue.

Moving forward, the province plans to launch new air services to locations such as Bangkok and Taiwan (China) over the coming years, he said, adding that it will focus on inviting travel partners to conduct surveys, re-evaluate destinations, and design new products and services.
