Congratulating Ambassador Akbar Ghasemi Ali Abadi on his appointment, Minister Luong Tam Quang expressed his confidence that, with his profound knowledge and extensive diplomatic and political experience, the Ambassador will have a successful term, contributing to further promoting friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that Vietnam and Iran have maintained traditional friendship, cooperation and mutual support in national construction, defense, and development over the 53 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, despite numerous changes in the regional and global situation.
The two sides continue to maintain and expand cooperation across various fields, including the economy, education, training, science and technology, agriculture, culture, sports and tourism. Vietnam and Iran also regularly coordinate and support each other at multilateral and international forums.
Regarding the cooperative relations between the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and Iranian law enforcement agencies, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that security and law enforcement cooperation has been continuously maintained and consolidated, particularly following the official visit to Iran in May 2023 by General To Lam, the then Minister of Public Security (now General Secretary and President of Vietnam), and the visit to Vietnam by the Commander of the Law Enforcement Command of Iran in May 2024.
To make security and law enforcement cooperation an important pillar in overall Vietnam–Iran relations, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that both sides step up delegation exchanges at all levels to explore their needs and cooperation potential for crime prevention; and effectively implement signed documents, including the Extradition Treaty, the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Vietnamese MPS, the Iranian Ministry of the Interior, and the Iranian Law Enforcement Command.
Minister Luong Tam Quang also requested that Iran enhance information sharing regarding international terrorism, drug crimes, and transnational organized crime that pose potential threats to Vietnam's security and safety, particularly during preparations for APEC Year 2027 hosted by Vietnam.
At the same time, the two sides should continue to coordinate closely to ensure the absolute security and safety of high-level visits; safeguard headquarters of diplomatic missions and citizens of each country living, studying, traveling, working, and investing in the other's territory; and strengthen coordination and mutual support at international forums of which both countries are members.
For his part, Ambassador Akbar Ghasemi Ali Abadi expressed his deep honor at assuming his post in Vietnam and sincerely thanked Minister Luong Tam Quang for the warm reception and open, substantive exchange.
The Ambassador affirmed that he would make every effort to promote cooperative activities between the two sides in high-potential areas, particularly in security and public order. He committed to serving as a bridge connecting the Vietnamese MPS and Iranian law enforcement agencies to implement cooperative activities under signed frameworks, contributing to deeper, more effective, and substantive bilateral relations in line with the common interests of both nations.
