100 domestic cases confirmed, Bac Giang crosses 1,000 in latest wave

The infection tally of the country’s fourth novel coronavirus (COVID-19) wave has risen to 2,505, with an additional 100 new local cases being confirmed over the past six hours as of midday on May 25, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health.

The latest domestic infections include Bac Giang (87), Thai Binh, and Dien Bien, Ho Chi Minh  one each, Da Nang (2), and Hanoi (8), with the majority comprising of F1 contacts who met COVID-19 patients or were related to previous outbreaks occurring at industrial parks.

The total number of locally-transmitted cases has now climbed to 4,075, while the number of imported cases stands at 1,486.

According to details provided by the Bac Giang Provincial Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, as of the end of May 24 the province had recorded three outbreaks, with the number of cases exceeding 1,000. The total is now 1,024 positive cases, an increase of 107 compared to May 23, and 12,340 F1 cases in total, a rise of 889.

As of midday on May 25, Bac Giang has recorded a total of 132 more cases of local transmission, all of which are F1 contacts in lockdown areas or relating to Quang Chau Industrial Park.

Due to this Bac Giang remains a COVID-19 hotspot, with cases still on the rise, thereby bringing the total number of patients in the locality infected during the latest outbreak to 1,156, with the condition of some patients deteriorating.

Furthermore, the number of daily cases continues to increase in Bac Giang, with the majority being workers in Quang Chau Industrial Park, in which Hosiden Vietnam Co., Ltd makes up the most, with second and third tests now being conducted for employees of the firm. In addition, some patients are beginning to show severe signs of suffering from the disease.

Currently, Bac Giang has arranged 11 isolation and treatment areas specifically for positive patients, with a capacity of 2,510 beds, whilst continuing to urgently deploy intensive care units for severely ill patients. They have also arranged a sufficient number of hospital beds, medical equipment, and monitoring camera systems to effectively meet the needs of medical examination and treatment.

Moving forward, the number of F0 cases is anticipated to continue increasing, although these cases are mainly coming from isolation and lockdown areas.

A total of 28 days following the initial outbreak, the overall number of infections detected in the latest COVID-19 wave is now 2.85 times higher than the original figure recorded in the previous January outbreak linked to Hai Duong and Quang Ninh.

Indeed, the virus has spread to 30 provinces and cities as of May 25 and shows no signs of abating, with this being the 11th consecutive day of the number of newly-detected infections surging by triple digits.
