Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, Head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee chaired the event.
The workshop was also participated by delegates from various relevant ministries, agencies and enterprises.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ha Cong Tuan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that the Central Highlands holds a special significance in politics, national security and defense. At the same time, the area is bestowed upon a great potential for developing agriculture, thanks to its rich natural conditions and fertile soil.
However, the agricultural sector of the Central Highlands has not tapped the full potential. Local agriculture is still seen as fragmentary, small-scale, low-quality and marginal profit. Although agricultural infrastructure was improved but has not met the requirements. The income of local farmers is much lower than the national average.
However, many farmers still have overcome all difficulties, made good use of the natural advantages, researched and applied advanced technologies to maximize agricultural benefits, to save input costs, and control pests and crops’ diseases.
Minister To Lam said that Vietnamese farmers in general and local ones in particular have made and will make important contributions to national food security, and the country's economic development. In accelerating international integration and developing a high-quality and high-value agriculture, it is necessary to replicate good models of farmers.
Minister To Lam suggested that the Central Highlands Steering Committee, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Science and Technology, the banking sector, the People's Committees of the Central Highlands provinces should develop supportive programs and favorable mechanisms and policies to insert the key product lines of the Central Highlands into domestic and global value chains.
