Accordingly, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh requested the Ministry of Transport and localities to direct service providers and related units to urgently install and operate the automatic non-stop toll collection (ETC) system on highways by July 31.
The ETC system will be implemented from August 1 on all expressways nationwide.
The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) were asked to accelerate the installation of the ETC system in remaining toll lanes of BOT expressways, ensuring the schedule and smooth operation.
There are 112 toll stations nationwide that have installed a non-stop toll collection system, including 69 toll gates managed by the Ministry of Transport while local governments manage 43 stations.
Regarding the increase in the rate of using ETC payment tags (e-tags), the deputy prime minister requires ETC service providers to raise service quality to reach more vehicles nationwide to use e-tags.
The service providers must pay attention to information dissemination about the ETC on the expressway and prepare plans for traffic regulations and remote warnings to limit vehicles that are not eligible to enter the expressway, causing traffic jams and poor safety.
The Ministry of Public Security to direct local police units to strengthen the tasks of ensuring security, order and traffic safety, while supervising the operation of the ETC system, resolutely handling violations of traffic safety.
