Awarding Medal Courage to driver Phan Van Bac

"I promise to turn my great happiness today into the motivation to raise the sense of responsibility and professional ethics of a driver" said Phan Van Bac.

On 21st September morning in Da Lat, authorized by President of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang, Mr. Doan Van Viet - Chairman of Lam Dong province People's Committee has awarded the Medal of Courage to driver Phan Van Bac (30 years old), lives in No.6 village, Da Oai commune, Da Huoai district, Lam Dong province.

Phan Van Bac was the driver of the truck licensed 49C-098.51 owned by a transportation company in Duc Trong district (Lam Dong), whom had the courage to rescue many peoples and property from terrify accident.

Earlier, on 6th September afternoon, Phan Van Bac drove a truck contains agricultural products from HCM City to Da Lat. When passed Km97 + 500, Road 20, in the area of Dam Ri town, Da Huoai district, he detected a coach licensed 53N-2824 driven by Phan Duy Toan (41 years old), residing at Can Duoc (Long An) was speeding out of control with 37 passengers waving desperately for help.

Phan Van Bac had cleverly tackled the dangerous situation by his driving experience along with excellent skills. Bac used his truck to cover the top of the coach; he had to apply his brakes very hard to ensure both vehicles did not lose control.

Realizing the brakes on the bus may have failed, Bac used his indicators to signal to the bus driver to run into the back of him to help slow it down. Despite the impact, Bac managed to control the truck and both vehicles came to halt 500 meters down the road.

The luckiest thing was that there was no one injured. The driver Phan Duy Toan only suffered with some minor injuries and was transferred to Lam Dong General Hospital in Ho Bao Loc II for treatment. He also discharged from hospital after a few days.

Speaking at the ceremony, Phan Van Bac said he is extremely honored and proud to receive the Medal of Courage by the President. "I will always remember this special moment. I promise to turn my great happiness today into the motivation to raise the sense of responsibility and professional ethics of a driver", said drive Phan Van Bac.

Earlier, President Trang Dai Quang, Minister of Ministry of Transport Truong Quang Nghia sent the letters praising Bac for his bravery.

Speaking at the ceremony awarding Medal of Corage to  Phan Van Bac, Mr. Doan Van Viet - Chairman of Lam Dong province People's Committee affirmed that the brave actions of the driver Phan Van Bac will be appreciated and praised by all people throughout the country.

Mr. Doan Van Viet hopes that the bravery of Phan Van Bac will be the ideal model for many drivers to learn from, in order to observe seriously traffic law and ready to help each other when in trouble.
