Mr. Huynh Phi Minh (50 years old, residing in Phuoc Dong commune, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province), who has just been recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization, is the owner of  the KH-90297-TS vessel. He said his crew caught the fish in Hoang Sa waters, the Vietnamese traditional fishing grounds, under Vietnam’s sovereignty.

He and his crew had to spend 8 hours pulling the fish onto the vessel with the aid of a special machine, said Mr Huynh Phi Minh.

On May 20, 2017, Mr. Minh's fishing vessel docked at Hon Ro port (Nha Trang city) with the bluefin tuna onboard. The fish was then sold to a Japanese trader. The fish weighed 307kg.

According to experts, bluefin tuna is found mainly in the Pacific and Indian oceans, they can also live in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. They can live up to 40 years and often dwell at a depth of more than 1,200m. An average bluefin tuna is about 150kg in weight while the biggest recorded bluefin tuna in the Pacific Ocean can weigh 450kg.

In Japan, bluefin tuna is valuable as it is used to make sushi and sashimi. About 80% of the world's fished tuna volume is consumed by the Japanese people.

However, before being imported and sold in the Japanese market, tuna must be preserved and processed under the Japanese-set high standards.
