PSNews - The Department of Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue under the Ministry of Public Security on August 27 in collaborationed with Thanh Hoa province’s authorities and Nghi Son Petrochemical Refinery held a fire prevention fighting and rescue drill in response to blaze and chemical incidents.

The drill, taking place at the Nghi Son Petrochemical Refinery in Thanh Hoa province, was a large and complex one with the participation of 250 people and 40 vehicles of local functional forces.

The assumed scenario said while a 10,000-ton tanker anchoring at the B1 Oil Terminal and transferring sulfur into the storehouse, a flame broke out on the conveyor belt and the fire quickly spread to the ship’s sulfur storage section.

Spotting the fire, 4 workers working at the storehouse tried to control the fire with portable extinguishers. They failed to put out the fire but suffocated and fainted.

As soon as detecting the fire, firefighters of the Nghi Son Petrochemical Refinery raced to the scene. They rescued the victims and deployed efforts and means to put out the fire. At the same time, they reported the situation and asked the Thanh Hoa Provincial Fire Police Division for assistance.

Shortly after being informed of the case, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Fire Police Force reported the incident to the Department of Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue under the Ministry of Public Security for support, and quickly deployed forces and means to the scene. They in collaboration with the on-site firefighting forces fought hard against the blaze.

Thanks to the good coordination among the involved forces and effective direction of the local authority, all victims were safely moved out of the fire area for emergency treatment and the fire was completely extinguished.

The professional forces then cleaned the environment, detoxified the people, vehicles and equipment involved in fire fighting and chemical incident response.

According to the Department of Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue, such a drill will help the force strengthen their coordination with on-site forces in case of fire or chemical incident, and make local businesses, authorities and people more aware and responsible for fire safety.
